Interactive physical challenge system developed for brand activations during the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, using ESP32-based IoT technology. The project was executed under a subcontracting model exclusively for the Strength, Skill, Agility, and Coordination challenges, for Productora Efecto, in collaboration with Jaquemate Brand Experiences for the Gatorade brand.
This project consisted of the development of four on-site physical challenges, designed to be part of a high-impact brand activation. Each challenge combines elements of strength, coordination, agility, or mechanical dexterity, and operates autonomously through sensors and visual indicators.
Elinous was responsible for the design and implementation of the technical solution, working for Efecto Production Company, in collaboration with Jaquemate Brand Experiences, the agency in charge of the activation. All design and intellectual property rights belong exclusively to both entities.
Each module allows the challenge to start with a physical button, offers two difficulty levels, and uses sensors connected to an ESP32 board programmed with Arduino IDE, allowing control of lights, stopwatch, and progress detection within a fixed 40-second time frame.
Designed for a massive and dynamic setting—such as the Gatorade booth at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games—the games offered a playful and straightforward experience. Each participant only had to press a button to start the challenge, guided by a visible timer and LED lights marking progress.
The physical interface, the time limit per attempt, and immediate feedback created an intuitive and engaging experience for people of all ages. The two difficulty levels allowed both children and adults to take on the challenge, encouraging continued participation and healthy competition.
The design was validated to ensure a balance between real physical effort, ease of use, and durability for repeated use in high-traffic environments.
Each challenge was implemented on an autonomous physical architecture based on the ESP32 board programmed with Arduino IDE, directly controlling sensors, lights, and the timer through embedded code.
Four IoT modules were developed:
Mechanical Dexterity: shoot balls into hoops, with basket counting via ultrasonic sensors.
Mechanical Agility: press randomly lit buttons in a controlled matrix.
Mechanical Strength: lift weight using a pulley, with height detection by step sensors.
Mechanical Coordination: pedal a wheel with rotation detection via perimeter sensor.
Each module includes:
Physical buttons to start each level.
Six achievement lights and one final beacon.
Visible digital stopwatch for the participant.
Programmed logic that automatically restarts each cycle.
The entire system was designed to operate without internet connection or data storage, making it secure, autonomous, and highly reliable for mass use. Elinous also provided technical consulting in selecting physical components, ensuring compatibility, durability, and ease of maintenance.
Elinous developed the complete technological solution for a series of interactive games that were part of the Gatorade activation during the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. The work was carried out for Efecto Production Company, in collaboration with Jaquemate Brand Experiences, the agency responsible for the activation proposal.
Thanks to a precise integration between sensors, ESP32 microcontrollers, and optimized embedded logic, a reliable, engaging, and efficient physical experience was achieved. The system allowed thousands of attendees to participate in real physical challenges, without the need for internet connection or constant technical support. The success of the project reaffirms Elinous’ ability to integrate technology and human experience in highly demanding environments.
